A statement on “Black Lives Matter” had to be explicit and needed declaration: in too many people’s minds and in too many socio-economic-health-educational institutions and organizations, Black lives do not matter! The murder of George Floyd (and other African-Americans) provides horrific evidence that racism exists and racial oppression continues in the United States of America. Indeed, it is a shame and an outrage that such societal oppression and mindsets are still prevalent. This being the reality, Be Well Initiative joins in solidarity: we resoundingly declare, Black Lives Matter!
Wherever systematic oppression exists, when oppressed people are denied social, economic, and other opportunities to access all kinds of resources, the results are predictable: individual, family, and community trials and trauma, pain and suffering contributing to an unacceptable level of physical, emotional and mental health issues.
The Be Well team is here to play our role in alleviating such injustice and human suffering by developing psycho-social support and resources for individuals, families, and the entire community. Our professional team and network foster mind-body health and wellness “prevention” as well as an early counseling intervention that:
- encourages everyday family and community health and vitality, and
- provides crisis services/resources for dealing with trauma and disasters, whether natural and/or human in nature!
